Social Activist Narinder Sharma on Sunday paid rich floral tributes to Kargil Martyrs Pritam Lal ,Davinder Singh and Balvinder Singh at Kotli Shah Doula. Speaking on the occasion, he said the sacrifices made by soldiers of the Indian Army during the 1999 war will always inspire the country’s youth to become more patriotic. He said 21 years ago, Indian soldiers defeated the Pakistani infiltrators and hoisted the Indian flag at Kargil. In this war, 527 Indian soldiers were martyred and more than 1,300 were injured. He said, “J&K is a land of patriots and even before the Kargil War, during the wars of 1962, 1965 and 1971 our soldiers had fought the enemy with velour and courage.”The sacrifice, courage and dedication of our soldiers can never be forgotten and the country will forever remain indebted to the soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the nation,” he added. It was on July 26, 1999, the Indian Army had declared successful culmination of ‘Operation Vijay’, declaring a victory after nearly three-month-long battles on the icy heights of Kargil.Kargil War is a testimony of the Indian Army’s grit and determination, wherein the Indian Army soldiers exhibited dauntless courage, resilience, valour and fought against all odds in bone chilling and blood freezing temperatures of the high altitude mountains in Kargil, added Sharma. Sharma further said that this day of remembrance is also an ode to the people of the great nation who stood by the soldiers and the Army all through the Kargil war. He said that the indebted public of this great Nation pays tribute to all those who served the country during Operation Vijay. Courageous soldiers of India ensured that the borders remain protected and gave an apt reaction to those who tried to disturb the atmosphere of peace. Prominent among others who also attended the event included Gurmeet Singh, Mangat Ram, Rakesh Bhagat, Rattan Lal ,Doulat Ram .
