Sale of fast food items is going on with impunity in the canteen of Central University Jammu with its administration continues to be unmoved and under constant hibernation towards bad repercussions on the health of students while using restricted eatable within the premises of campus. This was stated by Dr Vikas Sharma, State President National Secular Forum (NSF) in a press conference held today and criticised the lack of administrative control on the functioning of canteen in varsity where prohibited items like cold drinks, Momos, Hot Dogs, Patties, etc are being sold openly without any fear of university authority.
Alleging university authority having hand in glove with contractor running canteen in the campus, Dr. Vikas pointed out that University Grant Commission has issued directions as per its communication dated 16 November 2016 to Universities not to allow use of junk food in the premises of higher education institutions in the country and also sensitize the students about the ill effects of taking junk food.
Setting at naught the advisory of UGC in the interest and better health of students studying in universities, Central University Jammu has seemingly taken the advisory of UGC in a very casual manner putting the health interests of students in jeopardy, Dr Sharma clamoured.
Dr. Vikas appealed the Ministry of Human Resources Department, Govt of India to take cognizance of serious lapse on the part of Central University Jammu and initiate steps for remedial measures to stop sale of junk food in the campus of CUJ.
Among those who were present in the press-conference included Pushpinder Singh, Ishtiaq Naik, Vanu Partap and Sahil Sharma.
