Daughters of Panun Kashmir organised the Vitasta Divas function today on the bank of Ranveer Canal with traditional gaiety and fervour. Vitasta Divas is observed every year to celebrate the birthday of Vitasta river that is river Jhelum whom Kashmiri Pandits rever as a goddess.
The programme was organised under the chairmanship of the Chairman Political Affairs Committee Virender Raina and among others was attended by S/Shri J.L.Koul, Kamal Bagati, Upinder Koul,Shiban Kishen Bhatt, Sameer Bhatt,P.K.Bhan,Kewal Ji, P.N.Pandita, Rajinder Chrungoo,Ashok Chrungoo,Suraj Dhar, J.L.Drabu,Sunil Dhar and B.L.Garyali.
Senior Vice President J.L.Koul and Shiben Kishen Bhatt enumerated the significance of observing the Vitasta Day.
The members of the DOPK who were present on the occasion included Vijay Saproo, Santosh Sharma, Dolly Chrungoo, Babli Koul and Daisy .
Virender Raina while speaking on the occasion highlighted the significance of the day and said that the waters of Ranveer canal has a special significance for us as it carries the waters of river Chandrabhaga that is the river Chenab and in our religious texts the river Vitasta that is Jhelum and river Chenab are sisters. Raina added that we come here every year to celebrate the birthday of Vitasta river and pray to her that we will one day celebrate the day on the banks of river Jhelum again in Kashmir when it is free from the menace of terrorism.
Virender Raina and the other members present on the occasion took a pledge to upho8ld the unity and dignity of the nation and said that we would keep the flame of our struggle burning till we establish ourselves in our Homeland in Kashmir.
Virender Raina while speaking on the occasion expressed satisfaction over the decision of the Gov’t of India to suspend meeting with Pakisan foreign minister at UNGA.Raina said that terrorism is in the DNA of Pakistan and it is not going to mend it’s ways unless India adopts the strictest possible measures against it.Raina added that Kashmiri Pandits are the first and the primary stakeholders of the territory and polity of Kashmir and need to be consulted first before taking any decisions on Kashmir. The proceedings of the programme were conducted by Vijay Saproo and vote of thanks was proposed by Santosh Sharma.
As the evening set in earthen Diyas were floated in the Ranveer canal by the members of the DOPK and Panun Kashmir creating a magnificent spectacle all around.
