The Gujarat Police arrested four persons on Saturday while they were allegedly on a mission to eliminate a Jamnagar-based businessman on the outskirts of Rajkot.
The police said Dawood’s brother Anees Ibrahim, had given the contract to kill the businessman to Ramdas Rahane, a sharpshooter, and three others for ?10 lakh.
“Rahane and his three accomplices were on their way to Rajkot on a private bus to kill the businessman, who runs a construction company in Jamnagar,” Deputy Commissioner of Police, Rajkot, S.R. Odedara, who led the police team, said.
The businessman has been identified as one Ashfaq Khatri, who has interests in shipping and construction activities.
Based on inputs, the police laid a trap near Kuvadva, 15 km ahead of Rajkot on the Ahmedabad highway and intercepted the bus. The DCP said that on searching their luggage, a pistol, six live cartridges, two knives and fake number plates having vehicle registration numbers of Gujarat and Maharashtra were found.
Rajkot Police Commissioner Anupam Singh Gehlot said they had planned to steal a vehicle from Jamnagar to execute their plan. “We learnt during the interrogation that they had planned to steal a vehicle after reaching Jamnagar, change the number plates with fake ones which they were carrying and execute the crime before returning to Maharashtra,” Mr. Gehlot said.
