Deputy Commissioner (DC) Rajesh Kumar Shavan today chaired a meeting to review the execution of Traffic Management Plan envisaging measures to address traffic congestion in the Kishtwar town and its peripheral areas.
The meeting held an in-depth discussion on the issues related to traffic congestion, such as roadside encroachments, unregulated street vending and the problem of illegal parking and occurrence of road mishaps.
It was decided that all encroachments from Malipeth to Sangrambhatta and Kuleed Chowk to 5 Sector shall be marked and steps initiated to evacuate the same at an earliest.
The Revenue Department was directed to conduct the demarcation for National Highway in presence of BRO and NHIDCL.
The DC also emphasized the need to relocate mechanical workshops and other establishments in and around the bus stand area, as these obstruct smooth traffic flow and contribute to traffic congestion.
Additionally, the DC asked to implement traffic restrictions from 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM on movement of Passenger Buses from Thathri Nakka towards Kishtwar. He said that no night service bus shall be allowed in view of prevailing weather conditions.
The DC directed the traffic authorities to take strict action against violators by increasing compound challans to ensure better traffic regulation across the district.
The meeting decided to conduct an extensive enforcement drive against roadside encroachments.
SSP Javed Iqbal highlighted the importance of completing the installation of road dividers and white line markings to improve road safety and traffic management.
The meeting was also attended by ADC Pawan Kotwal, ACR Idrees Lone, ARTO Mohammad Saleem Manhas and representatives from the traffic department.
