District Development Commissioner Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary held a conference with the sportspersons belonging to different sports organisations and associations in which over 100 sportspersons drawn from different parts of the district participated. The participants apprised the DDC of various sports activities being carried out in the district and also projected infrastructural requirements to promote the sport culture in the district.
It was informed that T-20 tournament under the name Hindu-Muslim-Sikh-Iesai (HMSI) is being organised at district headquarters with active support of Press Club Rajouri wherein teams from Kashmir, Jammu, Chandigarh and Delhi have registered for participation. The sportspersons stressed for creation of sports infrastructure like sport stadiums, indoor stadiums, play grounds in Thana Mandi, Darhal, Rajouri, Koteranka, Nowshera, Sunderbani and Kalakote, proper water and electricity arrangements during tournaments, sports facilities like sports kits, permanent mat, ground men, arrangements for conduction of day-night matches, net practice facilities besides highly skilled coaches to train the youth in different sport categories.
They highly appreciated the keenness shown by the DDC to hold conference with them and have first hand appraisal of their issues and also applauded the steps taken by District Administration to weed out the drugs menace from the society.
Decision was taken by the DDC to establish a Sports Club in Rajouri which shall have members from sports field, senior officers of district administration and officers from 15 Blocks of Youth Services and Sports Department with mandate to provide all sports facilities to the youth for promotion of sports culture in the district.
Sportspersons were asked to identify land for development of cluster grounds on priority basis so that basic infrastructural needs of play fields are fulfilled. Decisions were also taken for linking of teams participating in different sports events with flagship programmes of central and state governments for their promotion and awareness among masses. The modalities for sponsoring of teams were also discussed in the conference. DSWO Dr Abdul Kabir, President Avinash Jasyal, Vice-President Arif Qureshi and other members of Press Club and Sportspersons including Shafqat Mir, Zubair Malik, Mati-ur-Rehman, Nayeem Bhat, Shiraz Mir and others also attended the conference.
