Residents of Phallian Mandal alleged that huge amount of garbage is being dumped into the River Tawi. While addressing a press conferencethey said the issue is complicated by the order passed by the authorities with regard to putting a blanket ban on lifting of minor minerals including sand and stones thus raising the river bed to an alarming level. The locals residing near the banks of the river have demanded to desilt the river tawi before the onset of monsoon.
They said the Government failed to start work of desilting of river Tawi despite several meeting with authorities concerned.
” The issue had also been bought to the notice of the government many time, he said adding the “we are not demanding for the sake of one village alone, but for all those residents living close to the banks of the river Tawi. The lackadaisical attitude of the government poses a threrat of recurring flood in the neighbouring areas,” he said.
