District Development Commissioner (DDC) Bandipora, Dr. Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, Friday called upon the student community to strictly pursue their education to secure their career and make themselves able to become decision makers by attaining higher positions in administration, engineering, medicines, civil service, research, journalism and other fields.
The DDC was addressing a student gathering while inaugurating National De-worming Day at a function held at Government High School Bagh Bandipora.
He said history has proven that the students who think positive always become the torch bearers for the societies. Dr. Choudhary also stressed for proper health and hygiene of the children.
Highlighting the essence of observing National Deworming Day, the DDC said deworming is essential to combat malnutrition and alied ailments among children. He appreciated the concerned officers for providing deworming medicine to over 1.50 lakh students between the age group of 01-19 years in the district.
Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Bandipora, Dr. Bilquees Mir said that intestinal worms cause anaemia, abdominal pain, loss of appetite and lack of concentration besides night blindness.
CMO asked all stake holders to give Albendazole 400mg for better health upkeep. She also stressed for proper hygiene and sanitation among students adding that the problem of intestinal worms is transmitted from soil.
On the occasion it was informed that 1.17 lakh tablets of Albendazole 400mg have already been procured for supply among the target populace through 816 government schools, 87 private schools and 803 Aanganwari centres.
On the occasion, Cheif Education Efficer, District Social Welfare Officer, Nodal Officer ISM, BMO Bandipora were present besides other concerned officers and officials.
Meanwhile Indian System of Medicines also celebrated National Deworming Day and provided free medicine to 529 patients at various ISM centres.
