Defending champion GNDU retains title C’ship

Farooq Khan, Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, has maintained that the sports professionals would realise the dream of Prime Minister Narendra Modi of making India proud throughout the world by bringing laurels to the country.
The Advisor was speaking at a valedictory function here on Wednesday evening on the concluding day of All India Inter-University Fencing (Men) Championship held at Jammu University from December 30 to January 01.
The championship was organized by the University of Jammu, under the banner of Association of Indian Universities (AIU). Vice Chancellor, JU, Prof Manoj K. Dhar presided over the function.
Advisor Khan who was the chief guest on the occasion distributed awards and trophies and other individual prizes among the winners.
The Advisor congratulated the organizers for holding the Championship in a successful manner and appreciated players and officials of the participating universities.
The event saw participation of 600 fencers, representing 63 teams from the various Universities across the country.
Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU), Amritsar retained the overall championship trophy while as BR Ambedkar University, Aurangabad and Shivaji University, Kolhapur claimed second and third spot respectively.
Among others, Dean Academic Affairs, Prof Naresh Padha; Registrar JU, Prof Rajnikant; Observer Khelo India, Aman Sharma; Observer of AIU, Udhay Dongre, Director Sports and Physical Education, Daud Iqbal Baba were also present on the occasion.
