Prof. Lalit Sen Sharma, HoD Department of Computer Science and IT formally inaugurated the camp. All the arrangements for the camp were made by the students of the department under the able guidance of Prof. Lalit Sen Sharma.
A team of doctors from GMC Hospital and the pharmacists from Health Centre were present during the camp. Ambulance was also provided by the Health Centre. Girls in huge numbers turned out for this camp. However, few of them were declared ineligible for donation because of low hb level.
Vikas Pandita, Class Representative MCA 5th Semester was the first volunteer to donate blood in the camp. He donated for the 16th time. After that, huge rush of donors was seen who donated blood with great enthusiasm.
While talking to media persons, Vikas Pandita said, “About 5 crore units of blood is required every year in India and only 2.5 crore units of blood are available resulting in loss of lives.
After every 2 seconds a patient requires blood transfusion in India and the number of people who donate blood is very small as compared to the number of units required. To overcome this shortage of blood we need to make voluntary blood donations so that more lives could be saved. Approx 50 units were donated by the students and approx 30 students were rejected, thereby total 80 students came for the donation.”
He further added that most of the people have misconceptions about blood donations and we need to make people aware about the benefits of blood donations. He appealed to the youth to contribute in this noble cause so that there is no shortage of blood in the world.
Other volunteers who donated blood and helped in the smooth conduct of this camp include Vivek, Nishant, Vikas, Rajat, Bhanu, Sajjal, Harpreet, Deepnaval, Sanjana , Rupali, Manvi, Meghnar, Gurpreet, Ria, Neha, Sakshi, Shikha, Parul, Mansi, Aman, Sunny, Sneha, Rippan, Aryan, etc.
