Drugs & Food Control Organization (D&FCO) has suspended licenses of three retail/wholesale medicine selling establishments in Jammu district during its ongoing drive. The D&FCO has constituted various squads to carry out surprise inspections to keep a check on spurious drugs. As part of its ongoing drive, inspection teams of the D&FCO carried out extensive checking of 40 establishments in Jammu and Srinagar districts under the supervision of concerned ADCs. Action was initiated against nine firms in twin capital cities for committing violations of Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940 while licenses of three were suspended for violation of various provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act. Meanwhile, drug samples of 29 formulations were lifted for test/analysis to identity, strength and purity of these drugs. Directions were issued to traders to desist from indulging in breaches of legal provisions, unethical trade practices, and to improve storage conditions to preserve the properties of drugs during their shelf life.
