Dia Mirza Rekhi, a Bollywood actress, embraced parenthood even before she delivered her son Avyaan. The actress became stepmother to her husband Vaibhav Rekhi’s daughter Samaira, whom he had from his previous marriage. However, in an exclusive interview with News18 Showsha on Mother’s Day, Dia stated that Samaira has yet to call her’maa’ or’mumma’. Dia said that Samaira has a biological mother whom she refers to as’mumma’ and that she does not expect Samaira to address her as’mumma.’ So what does she refer to Dia as?The Thappad star revealed Samaira calls Dia by her name. “She hasn’t called me maa. There is no expectations from her to call me ‘maa’, ‘mumma’ or ‘mother’. She has a mother who she calls ‘mumma’ or ‘mom’. She calls me ‘Dia,’” the actress told us. She added that courtesy of Samiara, Avyaan also calls her by her first name once a while. “Thanks to her now Avyaan also calls me ‘Dia’ once in a while. He says ‘Dia mom’, it’s too funny,” she said with a laugh. Dia also recollected the first time Avyaan called her ‘maa.’ Confessing that his first word was ‘tiger’, Dia revealed the first time Avyaan called her ‘maa’ was months later. “Oh my god, I will never forget that day. He said mumma much later. I think it was a good three months after he started to say words. It was a beautiful moment because all the flowers had started to bloom in the balcony and there were lots of butterflies visiting the flowers, and he was in my arms,” she recalled.
