Director Agriculture Production & Farmers Welfare Jammu, Shri A.S Reen, kick started the mechanized harvesting of the Wheat crop at the Seed Multiplication Farm, Chinore. Director Agriculture emphasized the need for efficient machinery utilization to ensure optimal output. The Director also showed keen interest in the latest machinery in operation at the farm like combines, reapers, straw collecting machines, and balers. Director Agriculture stressed that efficient use of the machinery should be ensured.
Highlighting the potential for enhanced production and productivity through the adoption of the latest farm production techniques, Director Agriculture underscored the importance of leveraging modern methodologies for agricultural advancement.
During the visit, the Farm manager of SM Farm, Chinore, informed Director Agriculture Jammu about the extensive coverage of approximately 2265 acres of land under various varieties of Wheat, Fodder, Oilseeds, and Pulses during the Rabi season 2023-24. It was revealed that elite and high-yielding varieties of wheat, oats, berseem, mustard, and pulse crops had been cultivated and multiplied at the farm for distribution among farmers. Furthermore, the Farm manager outlined the meticulous plans for harvesting different varieties of Wheat crop, utilizing six combine harvesters, with a target of completing the task within 20 days.
Additionally, it was disclosed that apart from Wheat, significant acreage was dedicated to oats, Oilseeds, and Pulses during the Rabi season 2023-24. The production estimate for high-quality wheat seed stood at an impressive 20000 quintals for the current year.
Earlier, Director Agriculture conducted a site visit to the Marh area of Jammu District to inspect the Silage Variety of Maize sown over an area of approximately 500 acres in the Marh Sub division, aimed at augmenting cropping intensity to increase the net income per unit.
