DLSA, Anugraha organize sensitization programme on ‘Ageing with Dignity’

JAMMU, SEPT 25:
In compliance to directions of Chief Justice of J&K High Court, Patron-in-Chief J&K State Legal Services Authority, Gita Mittal, District Legal Services Authority Jammu in association with Anugraha (National NGO) a Regional Resource and Training Centre on Ageing, New Delhi organized sensitization programme on Ageing with Dignity and Intergenerational Bonding to foster the intergenerational acquaintance between different generations under the Aegis of Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, National Institute of Social Defence besides addressing challenges being faced by the Senior Citizens here at K.C Law College, Jammu.
The programme was organized under the Chairmanship of Vinod Chatterji Koul, (Principal District & Sessions Judge Jammu), Chairman District Legal Services Authority, Jammu. The programme was started with the inaugural Address of Naushad Ahmed Khan, Senior Civil Judge Secretary DLSA Jammu.
To sensitize the students about special psycho social needs of senior citizens and methodology of dealing with them and to increase awareness and knowledge of key provisions of senior citizens Act, the DLSA had specially invited Dr. Aabha Chaudhary, an internationally renowned expert and Ph.D holder in Gerontology and gender issues and Chairperson Anugraha as Resource Person and Chief Guest. She spoke in the seminar with her expertise on issues, problems of senior citizens and effective communication skills and advised the participants that the senior citizens should be seen as blessing and not burden.
Addressing the gathering, Chairman DLSA Jammu exhaustively explained and asserted that the programme has been designed to develop formal and informal social support system, so that the capacity of the family to take care of the senior citizens is strengthened and they continue to live in the family.
Rehana Batool, Director General Social Welfare Jammu elaborated various existing Welfare Schemes of various Departments sponsored by Central and State Government for welfare of senior citizens.
Ajay Salaan DWS, Jammu in his address stressed upon the different challenges being faced by senior citizens and make effective provisions for securing their Rights.
Aseem Sawhney, prominent constitutional Lawyer and Additional Advocate General of J&K High Court also enlightened the gathering by his expertise on Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007.
Besides, students and faculty members of K.C Law College those who were present in the seminar were Rajiv Khajuria founder member SCOC, J&K and Ajay Salaan District Social Welfare Officer, Jammu.
The programme was culminated with vote of thanks by Professor Nissar Ahmed Ganaie, Principal K.C Law College, Jammu.
