Dogri Sanstha Jammu organizes programme of Dogri poetry and music

Jammu, Sept 24:
Dogri Sanstha, Jammu in collaboration with Kunwar Viyogi Memorial Trust organized a program of Dogri poetry and music, in Teacher Bhawan Gandhinagar, Jammu. Prof. Anju Bhasin, Honble Vice-Chancellor of Jammu Cluster University was the Chief Guest in the function. Highlights of the program were a Dogri mushaayara, a Bharat Naytyam performance on a Dogri song and presentation of Dogri songs by veteran singers of national repute, Jatinder Singh and Lovely Chandra.
Those who participated in the mushaayara include popular poets -Vijaya Thakur, Randhir Raipuria, Devendra Thakur, Susheel Begana and Nirmal Vinod. Their presentations were representative of the high standard that Dogri poetry has achieved.
One memorable aspect of the program was the first ever Bharat Natyam performance, based on Kunwar Viyogi’s Dogri poem ‘Ghangrel’. Bharat Natyam was performed by Shreyasi, an accomplished young dancer, who has already made her mark at national level. This innovative and enthralling amalgam of Bharat Natyam with Dogri poetry was highly liked by the audience.
However, the main chunk of program consisted of soulful singing of Dogri sonnets written by Kunwar Viyogi by veteran singers-Lovely Chandra and nationally renowned singer and son of soil Jitendra Singh. Jitendra Singh also sang some folk songs on the popular demand of audience. The music of items was composed by well known composers, Brij Mohan and Jitendra Singh. Prof. Anju Bhasin, the Chief Guest, said that both Dogri Sanstha and Kunwar Viyogi Memorial Trust are doing highly commendable job of popularizing Dogri literature, music and culture. She said, where as Dogri Sanstha has been working for their cause for the last 75 years, Kunwar Viyogi Trust in only 3 to 4 years of its existence has done phenomenal service to Dogri literature and language by the most innovative experimentation and initiatives of combining dance, poetry, literature and media in various unconventional ways. She hoped that these efforts will surely attract the younger generation to Dogri language and literature.
Govardhan Singh Jamwal, Chairperson, Kunwar Viyogi Memorial Trust, while making his comments said that it is the endeavour of the Trust to promote young talented writers, artists and performers in all fields of art and literature. The basic aim of the Trust is to promote art and literature, especially the Dogri literature and make younger generation a stakeholder in this process. He extended an open invitation that youngsters who wish to showcase their talent , may contact the Trust Prof. Magotra, President of Dogri Sanstha, while welcoming the audience stressed that the main purpose of this program was to showcase the quality of the poetry using the vehicle of music and dance. He said, the fusion of various art forms is sure to make stronger impact.
