A plantation drive was conducted in Ward 20 Gandhi Nagar Jammu to mark the birth anniversary of Bharatiya Jana Sangh founder Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee.
On the occasion, Corporator Ward No 20 Rahul Kumar along with Mandal Secretary Rachit Khosla, Ward President Satbir Singh, District Executive Members Sandeep Gupta and Rajesh Khullar, senior leader Vijay Verma, Joginder and Pankaj Gupta planted saplings.
The participants paid rich floral tributes to the stalwart party workers who recalled Mukherjee S contribution in the integration of the nation among his other works.
Speaking on the occasion, Rahul Kumar said “Dr Mookerjee sacrificed his life while agitating to end the permit system under which any one leaving or entering the state had to obtain a permit, a practice which did not exist in any other state of the country.”
Kumar said it was the sacrifices of Mookerjee that Jammu and Kashmir was fully integrated with the rest of the country and it was considered as one of the great steps for the national interest. He also threw light on the life of Mookerjee and said that he lived and laid down his life for the integrity of the country for which the entire country was indebted to him.
