In a significant political development, Dr. Subhash Chander, a University Professor, POJK Displaced People Activist, and a well-regarded figure among the marginalized sections of society in Jammu, officially joined the National Conference (NC) Party of Jammu & Kashmir yesterday.
The ceremony, attended by a large gathering of his supporters, was held in the presence of Shri Rattan Lal Gupta, Provincial President (JKNC), Jammu province. Shri Gupta warmly welcomed Dr. Subhash Chander into the party, affirming the NC’s commitment to working for the upliftment and betterment of the POJK community.
He emphasized that Dr. Chander’s joining would significantly bolster the party’s efforts to address the issues faced by this marginalized group. During his address, Dr. Subhash Chander highlighted the subtle political tactics employed by the current regime, which he believes have reduced his community to a mere vote bank. He strongly advocated for political representation for the POJK displaced community, which numbers approximately 7 lakh in Jammu & Kashmir and around 13 lakh across the country. He emphasized that only through adequate representation in legislative bodies can this wounded community find the healing and support it desperately needs.
Dr. Chander also noted the strategic importance of the assembly segments R.S Pura
South and Suchetgarh, which he represents. These segments alone have approximately 62,000 POJK displaced individuals, constituting a significant voter base.
The joining ceremony was also graced by the presence of Janab Seikh Bashir Ahmed provincial Secretary JKNC Jammu province and several other prominent leaders of the party, further underscoring the importance of this political move.
