Dream XI made it a big 75 runs win against Shanker Nagar XI in the opening match of the District Poonch Cricket Tournament, organised by the J&K Cricket Association (JKCA), at Sports Stadium, here today. Batting first, after winning the toss, Dream XI set a target of 181 runs for seven in 22 overs (40 overs match reduced to 22 overs a side due to rains). Aamir played brilliant innings of 64 runs while Irfan and Harvinder contributed 30 and 25 runs respectively. From Shanker Nagar XI, Harsh was most successful bowler with two wickets.
In reply, Shanker Nagar XI could make 105 runs for nine wickets in allotted 22 overs. Harsh was only batsman to stand by the opponent bowling attack and contributed 33 runs. No other batsman could touch the double figure mark. Imran claimed three wickets while Channan took two from Dream XI.
For his superb innings of 64 runs, Aamir was named man of the match.
Today’s match officiated by the technical penal comprising Rajinder Singh Toofan, Sanjay Misri (umpires) and Imran Shah (scorer).
In all, 47 teams have enrolled for the district level tournament being held under the banner of JKCA.
Earlier, the event was declared open by DySP Operations Poonch, Dr Besham Dubey. Among others present were Pawan Kumar (Coordinator), Paravez Malik Afridi (selector), Vijay Kumar (venue incharge), Farhad Sadique (KAS), Prem Prakash Luthra (retired DYSS), Nirdosh Kumar (Manager Sports Stadium), Imtiaz Khwaja and Tariq Khan (both member tournament committee).
