Essay Writing Competition on World Consumer Rights Day at Govt. Degree College Kathua

On the occasion of World Consumer Rights Day on March 15, 2025, the Department of Commerce at Govt. Degree College Kathua organized an Essay Writing Competition themed ‘A Just Transition to Sustainable Lifestyles’ under the able guidance of Worthy Principal Prof. Seema Mir. The aim was to raise awareness on consumer rights and the significance of sustainable living. The transition to sustainable lifestyles among consumers is significant because it drives demand for environmentally responsible products and practices, ultimately pushing businesses and governments to adopt more sustainable solutions, benefiting both the environment and society. The competition saw enthusiastic participation from 18 students of B.Com and BBA, who shared their insightful perspectives on sustainability in today’s world. The event was judged by an esteemed panel comprising Dr. Yashpaul Sharma, Head of the Department of Urdu, Prof. Ravinder Kour, IQAC Coordinator, and Dr. Ram Singh, Head of the Department of Education. After careful evaluation, the results were announced. Ms. Palak Bharti from B.Com Sem 2nd secured the first position, followed by Ms. Sadia Naz from BBA Sem 4th who bagged the second position. The third position was clinched by Ms. Anshika from B.Com Sem 2nd.The Principal of the college, Prof. Seema Mir, expressed her appreciation for the efforts of the Department of Commerce in organizing such important events that contribute to discussions on consumer rights and sustainability. She commended the students for their active participation and thoughtful submissions. The event was coordinated by Prof. Charandeep Handa, Head of the Department of Commerce, along with her dedicated team consisting of Dr. Pinkey, CA (Dr.) Rahul Gupta, and Prof. Manisha, who ensured the smooth conduct of the event. This competition provided an excellent platform for students to express their views on sustainable lifestyles and the role of consumers in promoting a better and more sustainable future.
