Jammu,Oct 18:
An act of great discrimination prevailing in Govt Medical College Jammu continues to haunt the patients needing eyes transplantation and treatment in Jammu with state government harping on the same tune to give step-motherly to people of Jammu region.
This was stated by Dr Vikas Sharma, State President National Secular Forum (NSF) while addressing a press conference today in his office and expressed his deep anguish over reports published in a section of newspapers raising fingers on the apathy of State Government to inordinately delay the process of opening Eyes Bank in Medical College Jammu despite lapse of considerable time period.
Lambasting the Health Department of State Government for its failure to set the time span fixing the deadline for putting into operation the Eyes Bank in Medical College Jammu, although Eyes Bank in Medical College Srinagar stands already opened in Medical College Srinagar for the facilities of such patients in Kashmir valley, which is a welcome step.
Taking a cue from press reports, Dr. Vikas said that Medical College authorities of Jammu are holding JK Medical Supplies Corporation Limited responsible for delay in opening Eyes Bank in Jammu as this Corporation of Health Department is authorized to purchase drugs, equipments and other necessary items for Hospitals and Medical Colleges functioning in the state.
Taking a dig at the lackadaisical approach of Health Ministry for giving long rope to JK Medical Supplies Corporation Ltd. to function at its own whims and vagaries, Dr. Vikas said that although funds have already been placed at the disposal of Medical Supplies Coronation Ltd. since long, but equipments have not been provided to Govt Medical College Jammu causing inordinate delay for starting Eyes Bank in Jammu.
Assailing BJP leaders of Jammu who were partners in sharing power with PDP in running government for their carelessness being BJP’s own legislator having headed the Health Ministry , Dr. Vikas sought attention of Governor Administration to take cognizance of serious lapse on the part of JK Medical Supplies Corporation Ltd. and urged the Governor to direct the concerned to immediately supply the required equipments to Medical College Jammu for starting Eyes Bank in Jammu as the infrastructure and staff stand already provided in MCJ.
Among those who were present in the press conference included, Papinder Singh, Rishikesh Rana, Manmohan Singh and Ishtiaq Naik.
