Two-day 26th Men Free Style and Greco Roman and 12th Women Wrestling Championship, organised by Wrestling Association of J&K, concluded with the holding of valedictory function at J&K Police Sports Complex, Gulshan Grounds, here today.
Advisor to the LG, Farooq Khan was the chief guest, who gave away the medals to the winner and runners-up wrestlers. He complimented the Wrestling Association of J&K for holding the competition amidst Covid-19 Pandemic situation while encouraging women in the power game.Speaking to the gathering, chief guest congratulated the wrestlers for close bouts. “A good beginning that women wrestlers compete in front of a huge gathering. Extremely happy to find talented stuff in the wrestling discipline. With the building of infrastructure at the gross root level, I hope J&K would improve at the National and International level in the times to come,” said Farooq Khan. President of J&K Olympic Association (JKOA), Dr Ashutosh Sharma, who was guest of honour, informed the gathering about the activities of the Olympic Association. A host of members of the JKOA and office bearers of sports associations were among those prominent present.Earlier, president of the Wrestling Association, Dushyant Sharma gave a brief note of the two-day event and thanked the chief guest for encouragement. He also appreciated the LG led Government of the improved infrastructure and hoped that J&K may also improve in terms of coaches and equipment. He informed that around 150 wrestlers from various districts and departmental team of J&K Police took part in this championship. And, now the talented wrestlers will form the J&K teams for the upcoming National events.
