Actress Fatima Sana Shaikh has made a shocking revelation in her latest interview with a daily. The actress, who was last seen in Thugs Of Hindostan, has said that she too has been a victim of sexual harassment but is not in a position to talk about it. She has also requested people to not judge her for not being able to share her #MeToo story.
Fatima talked to Mumbai Mirror and revealed that she faced sexual harassment and found her own way of dealing with it. She added that she doesn’t want to talk about the incident in detail or take any names. Fatima said, “I don’t want to expose that side of my life… I’m dealing with it, speaking to people I’m close to. Just like I won’t judge those who want to share their horror stories, I expect not to be judged for not sharing mine.”
The actress, who found her first full-fledged role in Aamir Khan‘s Dangal (2016), went on to say that women are too oppressed from ages that they have sort-of found their own ways of considering it normal. Fatima talked about the change that the #MeToo movement has brought in the country. She said, “Now sexual predators are scared of being shamed in public and shunned by the industry. For so many years we had normalised assault to such an extent that women had come to accept abuse as something that was normal.”
Fatima also talked about owning the failure of Thugs Of Hindostan. The actress said that she doesn’t regret doing the film, which also starred Amitabh Bachchan and Katrina Kaif in important roles.
Fatima said, “Why would I not do a film like Thugs? I still don’t consider it a setback to my career. I would like to take full responsibility for that. You can be sure that we tried our level best. There are people who have liked the film a lot and we would like to thank them. We are happy that they liked the film but that’s a minority. Majority of the people did not like the film and we are aware of the fact. So there is no doubt that we did go wrong. I want to apologise to the viewers who came to watch my film in the theatres as I was not able to entertain them despite trying my best.”
She will next be seen in Bhoot Police with Saif Ali Khan. She is also reportedly working on the sequel to 2007 hit film Life in a… Metro.
