Department of Lifelong Learning, University of Jammu, today started a five days’ training workshop on “Broadcasting skills” at the Seminar Hall today with the objective to reach out to the youth and enhance their employability skills and thus develop a theoretical and practical understanding of the basic skills and techniques necessary to produce audio production work in radio broadcasting.
The workshop which coincided with World Radio Day being observed today, was inaugurated by Ms. Anjali Sharma, Station Director, Radio Kashmir Jammu who was also the Chief Guest of the workshop. Ms Suman Pal, former Station director AIR Rohtak and AIR Jallandhar was the guest of honor at the occasion. Prof Poonam Dhawan, Former Director, DAA, was also present on the occasion.
Welcoming the guests, Dr Kavita Suri, Director and Head, Department of Lifelong Learning, University of Jammu, emphasized the need and importance of such activities and said the DLL would hold more such events which go a long way in the overall personality development of the students.
She expressed her thanks to Ms Sharma for facilitating the programme.
Ms Suman Pal, Guest of Honour, highlighted the history of broadcasting in India adding that radio is medium through which we see through our ears. She also briefed the participants about the importance of this workshop.
Ms. Anjali Sharma, chief guest, in her address which she presented in Dogri in order to highlight the importance on regional language, gave details about the importance of regional languages in Radio.
She further added that radio is not about the office and announcement, more than that it is more about understanding field, the feel of field and then reaching to the hearts of people. If, radio is able to do this, then only radio can reach to the heart of people, she added.
The other speakers for the today’s technical sessions were Mr. Upinder Ambardar who spoke about codes, conducts and formats of radio. He highlighted the sensitivity of radio and also explained the general codes and specific codes of radio.
This five-day workshop on “Broadcasting Skills” would bring together the best resource persons in the field of broadcasting who would dwell upon various themes related to broadcasting like history of broadcasting, AIR code, communication and presentation skills, pronunciation and articulation, radio drama, writing for radio, features, documentaries, art of interviewing, radio as an agent of change, compering variations etc.
