Food Safety enforcement drive conducted in Doda Town to curb sale of unsafe Meat

In Compliance with the Jammu and Kashmir High Court directions to curb the sale of unsafe Meat, a multi-department team conducted a thorough market inspection in Doda town, today. The drive was carried out on the directions of Deputy Commissioner Harvinder Singh and under the close supervision of Additional Deputy Commissioner Anil Kumar Thakur.
A team comprising officers from the Food Safety Department, Legal Metrology, FCS&CA, Animal Husbandry, Sheep Husbandry, Municipality and Sales Tax Department inspected around 20 meat shops, dhabas selling cooked meat and other allied establishments. The purpose of the inspection was to check the quality, hygiene standards and compliance with the legal provisions of different departments. Encouragingly, no rotten meat or unsafe food items were found during the inspection.
However, to further strengthen food safety practices, 12 improvement notices were served to meat sellers for compliance with hygiene and regulatory parameters.
The Legal Metrology Department imposed a penalty of ?5,000 for violation of LMD norms, while the FCS&CA Department levied a fine of ?800 against those using domestic LPG cylinders for commercial purposes.
The District Administration has reiterated its commitment to ensuring safe, hygienic and quality food for the public. Regular inspections will continue in the coming days and strict action will be taken against violators to protect the health and rights of consumers in Doda.
