Today dozens of fruits and vegetable sellers of Akhnoor town and nearby area gathered in the Fruit and Vegetable Mandi Daskal, Akhnoor. The main agenda of the meeting was to appeal to the administration to close unofficial mandi of Akhnoor so that the official mandi built of crores in 2012 should be officially started and promoted.
Addressing the gathering Raj Kumar Gupta said that the government of Jammu and Kashmir have spent crores for making a fully equipped and spacious fruit and vegetables Mandi in Dakal area of Akhnoor. He said that this was built after long pending demands of local traders of fruits and vegetables but it is very unfortunate that due to apathy apathy and nexus of the responsible officers, the traders and farmers are suffering alot and because they have to buy and sell amidst huge inconvenience due to the failure of official fruit and vegetable mandi in Akhnoor.
He said that they have approached pillar to post for their grievances but no seriousness was shown by the concerned officers.
He told the media that once the official Fruit and Vegetables Mandi of Akhnoor starts, thousands of unemployed youth will get employment. He said dozens of traders have purchased shops in the mandi which are going in waste causing huge loss to their business. He said the administration should immediately stop unauthorised mandi running in Akhnoor which is causing many problems of traffic congestion in town.
He said that this mandi can be a major destination for big traders for trade which will in turn provide many opportunities for small traders of the town also. He said this official mandi will provide fruits and vegetables to local traders and people at very cheaper rates as it will cut short the transportation charges of fruits and vegetables brought from Jammu Mandi.
Subhash Chander while addressing the media said that this is a huge set back to the government project which was completed spending crores. He said few people for their own profits are making all traders and vendors suffer. He said that they are bringing the fruits and vegetables in the official mandi to sale but due to unauthorised mandi and unauthorised wholesalers in town no customers and traders turn up to officially mandi which causes huge loss to their fruits and vegetables.
He demanded that the administration should immediately take measures to promote official fruit and vegetable mandi in Daskal, Akhnoor.
Vendors appealed Divisional Commissioner Jammu to intervene in the matter to save the Fruit and Vegetables Mandi of Akhnoor which was made by government spending crores.Others present in the meeting were: – Sikander Lal, Pawan Kumar Sharma, Ajay Sharma, Vijay Sharma, Kuldeep Raj, Jagdish Kumar, Babbu Sharma, Jatin Langer, Babu Ram Sharma, Roshan Sharma.
