JAMMU SEPTEMBER 28: The functioning of the State Taxes department’s Jammu wing was today reviewed by Additional Commissioner, State Taxes (Administration and Enforcement), Jammu Rifat Kohli here at a meeting attended by State Taxes Officers of Jammu Division along with Inspectors and other functionaries.
The Additional Commissioner reviewed status of target achievements in correlation with the budgeted amount and devised a strategy for ensuring tax compliance and enhancement of revenue collection under GST.
Directions were issued to accelerate the efforts for strengthening the enforcement mechanisms and data analytics with a view to shore up the revenue collections in an endeavour to achieve the target of budgeted amount.
The Additional Commissioner asked to create optimum awareness and extend every possible technical assistance to trader fraternity to ensure that taxable dealers file monthly returns on time besides registering all the eligible dealers/traders and service providers under the GST Regime.
She laid stress on the need to keep the GST Help desk fully operational for provisioning requisite technical assistance and handholding to the desiring business entities.
The dealers can contact GST help desk at 7051889993 for any assistance related to return filing, registration & amendments. The industrial Circles were asked to process the reimbursement claims in a time bound manner for extending budgetary support to the eligible industrial units.
Besides tax officers and officials were directed to adopt a two-pronged policy wherein, on one hand measures are taken to encourage voluntary compliance and on the other hand, tax evasion is being sternly dealt with.
The need to further strengthen the enforcement machinery was stressed upon so that evaders are not able to get away.
The Additional Commissioner further exhorted upon the officers to undertake extensive data analysis for evaluation of returns of taxpaying firms to detect mismatch of tax amounts deposited and volumes of business and also compile lists of persistent non-filers in their respective territorial jurisdictions and thereafter immediately initiate tax recovery proceedings against such complacent business entities.
She also stressed upon the need to formulate a strategy to track delinquent business entities indulging in high value transactions but depicting shrinked sales in ensuing days,through a non-filer monitoring system for effective tax compliance &revenue enhancement.
She asserted that the Enforcement wings of State Taxes Department Jammu, Samba, Udhampur and Lakhanpur stands already directed to inspect goods in transit particularly in private conveyances and public transports like Buses etc and asked the State Taxes Officers to work in close coordination with the said wings in their respective jurisdictions to ensure the compliance of relevant laws and deter tax evasion.
