JAMMU, Sept 28:
Government College for Women (GCW) Parade and Model Institute of Engineering and Technology (MIET) Jammu clinched the women and men’s title trophies in the annual inter-college Chess competitions of University of Jammu (JU), held under the banner of Department of Sports on the campus, here today.
In the finals, played today, GCW Parade defeated GCW Udhampur 4-0 while MIET Jammu trounced Government College of Engineering and Technology (GCET) again 4-0.
In the finals, president All J&K Chess Association, Atul Kumar Gupta complimented the winning teams amidst tips for improved performance.
The Results: MEN: MIET Jammu bt GCET 4-0: Kunal bt Manmohan Kotwal, Deepanshu Thakur bt Rohit Raina, Ashutosh bt Dheeraj Anthal, Rajat Sharma bt Adil Bashir. WOMEN: GCW Parade bt Ishu Mahajan, Sonali Manhas bt Sarika Manhas, Manisha Manhas bt Amisha Samsal, Apoorva Kangotra bt Pooja Sharma. The winning GCW Parade team also comprised Naina Sharma and Vaishali Abrol.
The GCW Udhampur had Monika Sharma as extra player.
Prominent among others present were SP Sharma, Sushil Sawhney, Suman Lata, Raj Kumar Bakshi, Ramesh Magotra, Gagan Kumar, Ravish Vaid, Amit Pandoh, Jai Bharat, Harinderpal Singh, Sanjeev Pandey and Pardeep Sharma.
FOOTBALL: Government SPMR College of Commerce shall be playing against Government Degree College (GDC) Kathua in the final of the ongoing inter-college men’s Football Tournament on the campus ground.
In the semifinals, decided today, Commerce College beat PG Arts 4-3 via tie-breaker while GDC Kathua downed GGM Science College 3-2.
The Results: Commerce College bt PG Arts 4-3 (Madhav Sharma, Abhay Samnotra, Lokhinder Singh, Brijpal Singh; Aqil Rasool, Imran, Aqeel. GDC Kathua bt GGM Science College 3-2 (Yogesh 16th and 34th, Krishan 51st; Tenzin 38th, Namgyal 59th.
The semifinals officiated by the technical penal including Suresh Gupta, Rahul Sharma, Dil Bahadur, Rohit Gupta, Dheeraj Menia and Gagan Kumar.
