Government degree College Neeli Nallah organised a one day workshop on Strengthening Justice: “The Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita’s Provisions for child and women safety” with the focus on ensuring justice and protection for vulnerable children and women. The event aimed to raise awareness and educate participants on their legal rights and discuss available solutions. The event featured a presentation by advocate Kiran Thakur, a renowned legal expert, who runs an initiative titled “DHIRA: The Undistracted Mind”, a legal awareness program designed to educate the public about their legal rights and responsibilities. She shed light on how the Nyaya Sanhita will influence the handling of child abuse cases. She elaborated various legal provisions and protections available to victims, offering practical guidance on how to seek help and legal recourse.
She stressed that the success of these reforms will depend on the effective implementation of the Nyaya Sanhita, and the active participation of all stakeholders, including law enforcement agencies, the judiciary and the civil society organisations.Principal of the college, Prof. (Dr.) Seema Arora in her address, emphasised the critical role that legal framework such as Nyaya Sanhita play in safeguarding the rights and well-being of the children. She highlighted that while the legal system is powerful in addressing and providing child abuse, it is equally essential for society to remain vigilant and proactive in protecting its most vulnerable members. The Principal further stressed the importance of education and awareness in combating child abuse, calling on all stakeholders to join hands in creating a safe and nurturing environment for Children. The whole event was organized by Dr Maansi Sharma, HOD Education. She presented a formal welcome address in which she highlighted the achievements of the resource person and the relevance of the topic in today’s scenario. The event was attended by 50 students. Dr. Sunil Tanoch, HOD Sociology and Prof. Rekha Sharma, HOD Dogri were also present in the event. The program concluded with an interactive session where participants discussed their queries and concerns further enriching their understanding of Nyaya Sanhita and its implications. The program ended with a formal vote of thanks by Prof. Rekha Sharma, expressing gratitude to the resource person, students and the teaching and non teaching staff for their active enrolment.
