NCC Cadets, 2 J&K Girls Battalion and 2 J&K Boys Battalion, of GDC Udhampur commemorated the supreme sacrifices made by our Kargil War heroes. In a series of events, including a guest lecture on the theme “Kargil Ke Veeron Ko Salaam” by Hony Capt Koshal Kumar Sharma, screening of a documentary on the Kargil War, Plantation Drive, and floral tribute to the war heroes at Dhruva Shradhangali Park, Udhampur. The whole programme was organised under the able guidance of the worthy principal of the college, Dr. Sanjay Kumar Verma. On 25th July 2024, the lecture was delivered by retired Hony Capt Koshal Kumar Sharma. The event began with a formal welcome of the guest, Hony Capt Koshal Kumar Sharma, by the worthy principal of the college. During his welcome address, the principal paid his heartfelt thanks to the speaker, and appreciated the ANO Prof Vijay Kumar, and NCC Cadets of the college. While reflecting on the Kargil War and its aftermath repercussions, the principal brought into light the courage, patriotism and sacrifices of our soldiers. During his lecture, Capt. Sharma shared his heart wrenching lived experiences of the Kargil War. He said that it was very challenging to counter the enemies hiding at the top of steep rocks coupled with harsh weather conditions. Sometimes, stones shooting downward would take the shape of sharp weapons and wounded many Indian soldiers. Despite all the difficulties and adversities, our soldiers, including Capt. Vikram Batra, Grenadier Yogendra Yadav and many other Bravehearts led to an unprecedented victory over Pakistan. He advised the NCC cadets to join the Indian armed forces and serve the nation with utmost honesty and sincerity. Among faculty, Prof Babu Lal Thakur, Prof Suresh Dogra and Prof Ashok Sharma were also present on the occasion. A formal vote of thanks was presented by Prof Vijay Kumar. In another event, followed by the guest lecture, a documentary on Kargil war was screened wherein more than 70 NCC cadets and college staff were present. It was followed by a plantation drive during which more than 50 saplings were planted by the dignitaries, faculties and NCC cadets. On 26th July 2024, NCC cadets, 2 J&K Girls Bn and 2 J&K Boys Bn, accompanied by ANO Prof Vijay Kumar, paid floral tribute to the Kargil war heroes at Dhruva Shardhanjali Park, Udhampur. The whole programme was organised under the instructions of the Commanding Officer of 2J&K Boys Bn, Col Rajesh Jasrotia and Col Munish Jasrotia, the Commanding Officer of 2J&K Girls Bn and the supervision of Prof Vijay Kumar.
