Remember the song ‘Ghar Se Nikalte Hi, Kuch Door Chalte Hi’ from Papa Kehte Hain? The lead actor of the song, Mayoori Kango has now joined Google India as its Industry Head – Agency Business. Mayoori left IIT Kanpur for an acting career and later, left acting as a career in 2003 after working with actors like Ajay Devgn, Anupam Kher, Arshad Warsi, Shakti Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Rani Mukerji and Chandrachur Singh.
She featured in a number of shows such as Kaahin Kissii Roz, Kittie Party, Kkusum and Kya Hadsaa Kya Haqeeqat. However, after getting married to NRI Aditya Dhillon in December 2003, Mayoori shifted to the US and pursued an MBA in marketing and finance from City University of New York-Baruch College – Zicklin School of Business.
Mayoori was previously the MD of Performics.Resultrix, part of the Publicis Groupe. She has also worked with Digitas as Associate Director. And, in Media and Zenith as Chief Digital Officer.
In one of her interviews with TOI about her acting career, she said, “I did about 16 films, and half of them never released. The 1990s weren’t a great time for actresses. All they had to do was dance around trees. So, I took up other jobs like writing scripts and making documentaries. In 2000, I entered the TV industry. In a few years, I got married and shifted to the US.” She made her debut with National Award-winning film Naseem in 1995, a film based on the Babri Masjid demolition. Mahesh Bhatt was impressed by her performance in Naseem and offered her the lead role in 1996 film Papa Kehte Hai. She was later seen in films like Betaabi, and Badal. She left Bollywood and shifted to television. Her TV shows were Dollar Bahu and Karishma – The Miracles of Destiny, where she played the daughter of Karishma Kapoor.
