To mark the celebrations of 550th Prakash Utsav of founder of Sikhism, Guru Nanak Dev Ji, Guru Harkrishan Public School (GHPS) Nanak Nagar organized an inter school turban tying contest here today.
The students of nearly 10 schools including Shiksha Niketan Hr Sec school, RM Public School, New National Hr Sec, Guru Harkrishan Memorial Hr Sec Simbal, Unique Public Hr Sec, Dogra Hr Sec, GHPS and Government Boys Hr Sec R S Pura took part in the competition and did their best to excel in the contest which was specially conceived and configured to highlight and promote the rich cultural legacy of the region and for showcasing the magnanimity of the people of this great land of valiant soldiers and illustrious saints as both used to wear turbans of various hues and contours to appear distinctively.
Addressing the gathering, chief guest Fateh singh, gen Secy DGPC lauded the endeavour of school management in organizing such a meaningful contest which will help connect students with their glorious past and also encourage them to go through the teachings of saints and seers who initially enthused noble thoughts and sense of self esteem among people of this region. He also asked students to follow the path of Sikh gurus as enshrined in holy Guru Granth Sahib.
Special guest on the occasion, Bhupinder Singh Chairman GHPS lauded the participants for their efforts and fighting spirit with which they participated in the contest. He asked them to retain the tempo in real world also to prove their mettle in their chosen fields of profession. Citing couplets of Gurbani, he motivated them to believe and tread on the principle of serving humanity in whatever manner they could and make way for a peaceful existence of all including environment and its constituents.
Principal GHPS Rita Popli presented the vote of thanks. The winners of junior group include prabdeep singh (Ist) Guru Harkrishan Memorial Hr sec Simbal, Sukhvinder singh (IInd) Shiksha Niketan Hr Sec and Harshdeep Singh (IIIrd) Guru Harkrishan Memorial Simbal, while in senior group Parmveer singh of Unique Public Hr sec clinched first position, Gundeep singh of GHPS second and Jasdeep Singh of GHPS third position.
