The function was inaugurated with the lighting of traditional lamp before the photo images of the Martyrs S/Shri Sushil Kumar Bhat, Ravinder Kabu and Ashok Raina who were selectively killed by the Islamic terrorists while they were going to Gool to join their duties in 1997. The two other martyrs who were brutally killed near Sarthal-Kishtwar and Doda included S/Shri Kanya Lal Duda and Shiban Lal Garib. Floral Tributes were offered to the martyrs on the occasion while, besides a large number of community members, the families of the martyrs also attended the function.
Virender Raina, Chairman, Political Affairs Committee of Panun Kashmir presented an introduction of the programme and Dr. Ritu Bakshi made a power point presentation on the Exodus and its Effects on the occasion. Smt. Nirmala Pandita-Delhi presented a vote of thanks.
Rajesh Gupta, MLA, Jammu East in his speech lauded the efforts made by the Kashmiri Pandit community and said that the community has proved that those who resist can only exist.
The sacrifices of the martyrs will never go waste as they remain pious and sacred for all of us.
The Daughters of Panun Kashmir has been organizing very inspiring programmes always and we as a society need to help our Matrishakti that has kept the flame of struggle alive by contributing both in and outside the home.
Girdhari Lal Raina, MLC in his address highlighted the contribution of the slain martyrs and gave a brief of his relationship with them.
He lauded the efforts to organise such a kind of programme in their memory for the first time and said that his party, the BJP, would make all efforts to bring succour to the displaced community as it has been always doing.
Adv. Umesh Shukla extended his help and assistance to the cause of Kashmiri Pandits.
He said that his previous contributions to the cause of Kashmir in the form of Kashmir Chalo March and Tiranga Yatra have always inspired him to take up the issue of Kashmir and Kashmiri Pandits at his native place in Kanpur. He also declared that Kanpur civil society will be organizing a programme on Kashmir during this year.
Ashwani Kumar Chrungoo, President, Panun Kashmir paid rich tributes to all the martyrs of the community. He dwelt on the subject of recent damning report of the UNHRC about the Kashmir situation and said that Panun Kashmir rejects the report completely.
He said that it seems that the report has been dictated to the UN body by Hafiz Sayeed. The government of India ought to ask the UN to close its UNMOGJK offices in India as they have lost their relevance completely. It is shameful that the UN body kept mum on the genocide, ethnic cleansing and mass exodus of the indigenous people of the Kashmir valley -the Kashmiri Pandits. In fact the UN body has unleashed a war with the UN on the issue of global terrorism. The so-called Report is negation of the UN principles on Global Terrorism and it also weakens the war on Terrorism.
It is reprehensible that this kind of a Report has been unleashed against a very important global power and a sovereign State like India which has played a very responsible role against global terrorism always. Moreover, the UN body has conveniently ignored the fact of cross border terrorism against India and Amnesty International’s brazen support to the so-called report smacks of a conspiracy not against India but also against the UN war on global terrorism.
Panun Kashmir demands that the government of India should formulate its own Report on the subject keeping in view the last three decades of terrorism and the human rights violations committed by the terror regime on the innocent people in Jammu and Kashmir and present it to all the nations through its embassies, envoys, military and cultural attaché and also through accredited NGOs.
