Governor Dhankhar meets Amit Shah, discusses ‘worrisome’ situation in West Bengal

West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar on Monday met Union Home Minister Amit Shah here and discussed with him the overall prevailing “worrisome” situation in the TMC-ruled state.According to officials in the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), the Governor apprised the Home Minister about the prevailing political, law and order and COVID-19 situations in West Bengal, which, he is learnt to have claimed, are deteriorating at an alarming pace to become “worrisome”.The meeting, which took place this afternoon, assumed significance amid growing animosity between the Raj Bhawan and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s office over a host of issues relating to governance and policies, the latest being the state’s education system .Dhankhar before the meeting had tweeted: “Would be discussing with Union Home Minister at noon today about West Bengal worrisome situation.”The governor had also said he would discuss with the home minister about his constitutional duties provided under Article 159 that includes “to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution”, and will “devote myself to the service and well-being of the people”.On Sunday, the governor had said there was no room for complacency for the state government when it came to dealing with rising COVID-19 positive cases and deaths in West Bengal.
