Chennai, Dec 23:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said the Mahagathbandhan (grand alliance) was formed for the “personal survival” of the leaders of the opposition parties and it was not ideology based. The grand alliance was for “power and personal ambition” of several leaders and not for the people and people’s aspiration, said Modi responding to a question by a BJP worker, Muralidhar, in Chennai Central constituency during an interaction programme – My Booth is a Strong Booth. The Prime Minister said, “Several leaders are talking about the grand alliance. But the leaders who claim to be deeply inspired by Ram Manohar Lohia, who vehemently opposed the Congress and its ideology, are part of the alliance. What sort of a tribute are they paying to Dr Lohia by forming an unholy and opportunist alliance with the Congress?!” “Today, these parties have become oxygen for each other,” Modi said and added that the Congress and its ecosystem spared no one and even former Tamil Nadu chief minister M G Ramachandran, the stalwart worked for the poor and downtrodden, had been targeted. Though MGR had the support of the assembly, the Congress government that had the support of Raj Bhavan, dismissed his government in 1980. A fresh election had been called for, but had MGR won, he said. Several parties including Telugu Desam Party which had been formed against the Congress were part of the grand alliance, he said. “It is an incoherent collision. They are not looking for the growth of the country, but for the growth of the families.” On Lok Sabha election preparedness, he said that elections were won by party workers, not by the leaders. “Be part of the family of the voters and share their joy and sorrow and create awareness on the government schemes and establish direct connection with the beneficiaries by meeting the regularly,” Modi said. He emphasised on team work for the party’s best chances in the elections. He advised party workers to arm with NaMo app in their smartphones and equip themselves with modern gadgets to reach larger section of the electorates.Modi also interacted with party workers in Madurai, Trichy and Tiruvallur constituencies.
