The Handicrafts Department organized an awareness camp at Rajpura, a border village in Samba district, to inform local artisans about various government schemes aimed at promoting and preserving traditional handicrafts.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from artisans, reflecting their keen interest in availing the department’s support and benefits.
Addressing the gathering, Assistant Director, Handicrafts, Ms. Ekshu Sharma, emphasized the importance of preserving traditional handicrafts and supporting local artisans. She elaborated on initiatives like Calico Printing, a unique program providing skill training and financial assistance to artisans to promote and sustain traditional craft forms.
Ms. Sharma highlighted the government’s commitment to uplifting the handicraft sector by ensuring artisans have access to resources and opportunities to thrive in today’s competitive market.
The camp also served as an interactive platform for artisans to raise queries about government schemes and gain clarity on the application process. The Handicrafts Department reiterated its dedication to empowering artisans and preserving the region’s rich handicraft heritage for future generations.
