JAMMU, Oct 19:
Wrestler Somveer of Rohtak (Haryana) lifted 9th Mathwar Kesari Dangal title defeating Ali of Iran at Baba Ballo Dev Shathan in village Mathwar in Tehsil Akhnoor of district Jammu.
The mega day-long International event was organized by Mathwar Dangal Committee in collaboration with J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association under the supervision of Baba Yash Paul Sharma, former Sarpanch, Ashok Kumar Sharma and president J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association, Shiv Kumar Sharma.
In all, 33 bouts decided in this Dangal on which an expense of Rs. 8,00,000 incurred.
Director General of Police (DGP) J&K, Dilbag Singh was the chief guest, who distributed cash prizes among the winners and runners-up wrestlers. Shiv Kumar Sharma, who is also treasurer Indian Style Wrestling Association of India, presided over the function.
A host of other prominent guests, Speaker J&K Legislative Assembly, Dr Nirmal Singh, former Deputy Chief Minister, Kavinder Gupta, Member Parliament, Jugal Kishore, MLA Sat Paul Sharma, MLA Pawan Gupta, MLA Devendra Rana, MLA Rajeev Sharma, Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Sanjeev Kumar and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Jammu, SD Singh also witnessed the event.
Prominent among those present were SDM Satish Kumar, SP (Rural) Jammu, Dushyant Sharma, retired SP Prithvi Raj Sharma, retired Tehsildar, Bansi Lal Tidyal, Naresh Kumar (Pappu Lakri), Tilk Raj, Ram Paul Sharma, and Sohan Singh.
Winner of the main bout, Somveer was awarded with a cash prize of Rs. 60,000 along with traditional Silver Gurj by the chief guest. Runners-up, Ali of Iran presented with a cash prize of Rs 40,000.
In another main bout, Heddo of Georgia outplayed Satinder of Haryana to bag cash award of Rs 60,000.
Third main bout won by Parveen Bhulla of Delhi, who defeated Gourav of Indore (MP) while fourth main bout went to Prit Paul of Phagwara. He defeated Mohammed of Iran. In fifth bout Nisar of Doda outplayed Gani of Hoshiarpur and the sixth bout was won by Veer of Delhi beating Ajay Sharma of Udhampur.
Members and technical officials who helped for conduct of this Dangal included Ashok Kumar Sharma, Tilk Raj Sharma, Naresh Kumar (Pappu Lakri), Ram Paul Sharma, Baboo, Kaku, Narinder, Babu, Banarsi Lal Master, Mohan Lal Numberdar, Jagdish Dutt, Darshan Chand, Baldev Raj, Ami Chand, Hari Chand, Puran Chand, Om Parkash, Sohan Singh, Raman Singh, Ashok Kumar (Arjun Awardee), Ashok Dhaka, Jagbir Singh and Tripta Sharma.
