Amidst impressive show of strength and techniques, foreign wrestlers had an edge over their opponents from India in the day-long 14th Mission Dosti International Indian Style Kushti Championship held at SMVDSB Sports Complex, here today.
It took Heedo five minutes to finish the bout in the first five minutes of the two seven-minute each rounds contest. The Indian Salinder of Haryana, who serves with Indian Air Force had no match for the tough Geogrian.
Heedo secured the needed 12 points in a couple of moves, including four-pointer to make it a 12-0. Heedo was presented with Rs 1,25,000 prize money and Silver gurj while Salinder given away Rs 1,01,000.
Out of the seven international fights, the visiting foreigners won four, including the main title, thereby showed their supremacy. Those Iranian wrestlers performed poorly and lost both their fights while competitors from Belarus, Georgia and Ukrainian impressed the crowed with their one-sided contests.
Earlier, in the second main bout, Imran of Russia was beaten by Somveer of India 6-2 bye fall (an outright victory) in the second round. The third main bout won by Shashi of Ukrain beating Karan of Haryana 5-0.
All the five points earned in the first round as the second round remain barren in view of dilly dallying fight. Two Iranian wrestlers performed poorly. While Ali was beaten by Bhola within seconds in the very first move bye fall, Mohd was also downed bye fall by Abdul Ghani of Malerkotla in Punjab in mere two minutes of the contest. However, tall and tough Russian wrestler, Oman defeated Maher Singh in a close contest 3-1 that lasted for compete two rounds. Daniel of Belarus blanked Akash 12-0 (bye fall). In women section, young wrestlers too had close contests.
The most attractive fight took place between two internationals, Anshu (three time international medallist) and Kavita (Commonwealth Silver) which promising Anshu won 3-0. Other Results: Divya of Karnal bt Khushi of Delhi 6-0; Meenakshi (World Junior Silver and Asian Bronze) bt Anu 12-0; Priya bt Deepika 4-0.
“Likewise last year, the 14th edition of the Mission Dosti International Kushti was a grand success with around 25,000 people from different parts of Jammu turned up to witness the international wrestlers competing against their counterparts from India. The main attraction today’s championship was young talented international women wrestlers displaying their skills and truly close fights in almost all the seven international contests,” said chairman of the organising committee and president of J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association, Shiv Kumar Sharma.
Mission Dosti Kushti witnessed by a host of guests, including religious, political leaders, senior police as well as officers from civil admini stration and the visiting guests from United World Wrestling (Associated Styles) and office bearers of Indian Style Wrestling World Federation and Indian Association.
The star attraction was Rodica Maria Yaksi, president of United World Wrestling, who came all the way from Turkey to witness the event.
The mega event was part of the ongoing Navratra Festival held under the auspices of Navratra Festival Committee and in collaboration with Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, J&K Tourism Department, J&K State Sports Council and other allied Government departments and business organisations.
