Late veteran actress Sridevi was conferred with the Best Actress National Award for her stupendous performance in ‘MOM’ making her the first actress in the history of National Film Awards to be given an award posthumously in that category. While interacting with the media, jury head Shekhar Kapur revealed that he had asked the National Film Award jury to not choose Sridevi.
A daily reported that Shekhar Kapur’s special relationship and bond with Sridevi has nothing to do with her win. It was also stated that Shekhar would look at all the actors and talk about them everyday and only suggests that Sridevi should not be in that list.*
The report further added how he would come every morning and ask the jury members to vote again and look at the other nominees as well. However, somehow all the votes would point at Sridevi despite several trials. He further revealed how he was the one who fought that it shouldn’t be Sridevi.
Reports also stated that Shekhar Kapur emphasised on the fact that if the award is given to Sridevi just because she died, it would be unfair to other girls since they too have worked hard for 10-12 years and they too have a career. On the other hand, Ravi Udayawar, director of ‘MOM’ said that Sridevi totally deserved the honour and he is extremely happy as it was their collaboration.
