JAMMU, Aug 29:
The National Sports Day in India is celebrated on 29 August, on the birth anniversary of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand Singh . This day marks the birthday of Major Dhyan Chand Singh, the hockey player who won gold medals in Olympics in the years 1928, 1932 and 1936. He scored over 400 goals in his career, from 1926 to 1948. After putting his stamp on international hockey arena, and having served his country to reach its pinnacles of glory multiple times. He is a legendary figure in the Indian and world hockey. There is no who has reached his level in hockey. Like every year Hockey Jammu-Kashmir intends to organize a function to mark the National Sports Day 2019 in KK Hakku Hockey Stadium, Jammu on 29th August 2019. Two hockey matches for both Men and women will be oganised on the occasion. As such, You are requested book the KK Hakku Hockey stadium from 3 PM onwards on 29th August 2019.
Hockey J&K organised 2 Men and Women friendly matches to mark the occasion of Olympic Day 2019 at KK Hakku Stadium Jammu. In this programme Mr. Tejinder singh IPS, Senior Superintendent of Police, Jammu was the Chief Guest.
In men section Jammu Blue won the match by defeating Jammu Pink by 2-0 and in Women section KK Hockey Club defeated Royals Hockey Club 4-1 in closely contested match.
Mr.Tejinder singh SSP appreciated the role of Hockey J&K for providing training to the youth of J&K . He further added that sports can keep away youth from the drugs. So the sports play effective role for de addiction. In militancy affected areas sports played important role to keep away the youth from joining militant folds. In his motivational speech he stressed upon the players to train themselves like great Hockey player Major Dhyan Chand singh. He said fix a goal and fight to achieve that goal of successfulness with full zeal and commitment. He hoped that one day J&K will produce international level hockey players.
He paid floral tributes to Former Finance Minister Sh. Arun Jaitley on his sad demise before starting of function.
He distributed Hockey sticks to 8 needy players provided by Hockey J&K on the occasion.
Sh. Rajinder Singh Kuku General secretary Hockey India assured all possible support to J&K State for promotion of Hockey.
Chief Guest presented trophies to the winner and runners up teams. He also present memento to Sh. Rajeev Sharma for their services to the promotion of Hockey in J&K.
Earlier Dr. Taran Singh general secretary Hockey J&K welcomed the Chief Guest and thanked him for his support as a hockey player. He reminded that the Chief Guest is a hereditary hockey player as his father was a national player.
