Honorarium hike would enthuse SPOs to fight militancy more vigorously: Khanna

The hike in honorarium of SPOs of Jammu and Kashmir for the third time in just five and half years by Prime Minister Narendra Modi headed government at the Centre is itself endorsement of the fact that their role in countering the militancy and inducing a sense of security among the people in remote and far flung areas has been splendid and that they need to be rewarded for their valour.

In a statement, BJP National Vice-President & J&K Prabhari Avinash Rai Khanna said that the decision of the Modi government to hike the honorarium of SPOs working in the militancy-infested state will further boost the morale of these SPOs, who have been performing various duties risking their lives. Their role in serving as guides to the police and Para-military force in difficult terrain and provide in puts regarding security has a long been splendid in last three decades.

Avinash Rai Khanna said that the SPOs were engaged in early 90s with the purpose of getting the involvement of unemployed local people to assist the police in anti-military operations and during all these years, they have rendered valuable services, many of them have sacrificed their lives for the cause of the nation.

Terming the decision of Narendra Modi government as a welcome step, Khanna said that the present enhancement shall improve the financial and living conditions of the SPOs and enthuse them to discharge their duties with more vigour and dedication.

The government should also consider their demand of regularisation after serving for a particular period as SPOs to ensure them of their further security of the job, Khanna added.
