But the rains also bring mosquitoes, cold, cough, and water-borne diseases. Kids are the most vulnerable to such infections. So, it is important to keep them safe, especially during the rainy season. There are various illnesses that might affect your baby and might even progress into a severe illness as a baby’s immune system is still developing.
Here are some tips on how you can keep your newborn safe this monsoon:
Proper Hygiene
We come in contact with million germs each day as they breed on everything we touch such as the washroom, furniture, etc. To keep your baby safe and free from these germs, it is essential that you keep their surroundings clean and anyone who touches them should wash their hands before playing with them. Apply a good diaper cream, bathe your baby daily, use wipes to clean them, and wash their clothes properly to keep them safe.
Keep the Newborn Dry
If the clothes of the baby are damp, there are chances of the baby catching a cold or a fever. So make sure that your baby’s clothes are dry and warm. Also, keep in mind that you change the baby’s clothes according to the weather – add enough layers to avoid cold and take them off if the weather is hot.
Keep Mosquitoes at Bay
It is common to develop a mosquito-borne disease during monsoon and a newborn is more at risk of developing such a disease because of a weak immune system. Moreover, the mosquito bites can be really painful for the baby and leave red swollen marks on their body. Use mosquito nets and make sure that they wear full-covered clothes. Use a mosquito repellent made of natural ingredients to keep mosquitoes away from your babies.
Keep a Check on Allergies
If a neonate has an allergy, then that should be given extra care during the rainy season. Allergies can easily turn into infection during this season. If you notice any rashes anywhere on your kid’s body, consult a doctor immediately and get the problem checked.
Change the Diapers
Don’t let the infant wear the same diaper for a long time as it can lead to the development of rashes which can be very painful. If a child remains in a wet diaper, it may end up with a cold. Keep a check on the diaper and see if it needs changing. The best way to avoid such an occurrence is by going diaper-free for a while.
Moms – Eat Healthy!
Breastfeeding is the best way to give the baby all the nutrients that his body needs. The healthier the mom eats, the healthier the milk. The milk produced by the milk makes the child healthy and makes his immune system stronger. So all the moms out there, eat a healthy diet rich in fibre and other nutrients.
