Indian Council for Enviro-Legal Action (ICELA) in collaboration with Interaction Forum Jammu Province (IFJP) and All J&K Youth Federation (AJKYF) organised a seminar on ” Forest Fires its Cause and remedies” on the eve of World Environment Day. The programme was presided over by Convenor ICELA J&K Chapter Ashok Sharma Advocate and former Legislator whereas, B.S. Jamwal former Deputy Commissioner and Chairman IFJP was the chief guest. Chander Mohan Sharma former Deputy Director Agriculture and Dr. Y.P Sawhney former MD Milk Federation were the guests of honour on the occasion and Ex-Add. PCCF Capt. L.K.Sharma was the special guest invitee.
The participants expressed deep concern on widespread forest fires which has caused tremendous damage to the forest vegetation and wild life. The participants expressed their views on forest fires, causes and remedies. Arjun Sharma, State Convenor AJKYF said that the department and the local residents cannot be mute spectators towards destruction of our green gold in fires.
B.C Raina former trade unionist, Chairman RTI Cell, IFJP described the forests as full fledged institution which has its own ecosystem, hydraulic cycle, food chain, micro climate and bio diversity status and forest fires damage all components of this institution of nature.
