Jammu, Aug 07:
While hailing the Jammu Police for biggest ever catch of heroin in its tirade against narcotic terrorism, Mr. Harsh Dev Singh sought a high level probe into the entry of such huge consignment into Jammu city despite dozens of Nakas and check posts enroute on the National Highway from Kashmir to Jammu. He said that while the Jammu cops were required to be complemented and suitably rewarded, the govt needed to probe the role of the intervening check posts without whose connivance the transportation of such huge quantity of high grade heroin would have been an impossibility. He was addressing a press conference in Jammu today. Describing the huge influx of drugs, narcotics and other psychotropic substances into Jammu as highly perturbing as opprobrious, Mr. Singh said that it could not be possible without chinks in the administration. He said that drug trafficking and trade in narcotics has assumed alarming proportions in Jammu and could lead to earth shaking consequences if not addressed in the proper perspective. He said that repeated cautioning by various social and political organizations has not been taken seriously by the helmsmen with the result that drug mafia has been allowed to grow and prosper in collusion with certain moles in police administration.
Regretting the non initiation of any action into the multifarious complaints of Drugs trafficking and other contraband material besides several cases of bovine smuggling in Udhampur, Mr. Singh said that three alternate routes were used in Udhampur to facilitate the smuggling activities. Some trucks and public carriers were allowed to take the National Highway route from Udhampur to Jammu, some were allowed to take Mansar-Samba route, while others were permitted to take Dhar road route depending upon their preference and convenience, he divulged. He said that seizure of 51 kg heroin from Jammu besides 14 quintals of poppy straw from Lakhanpur during the past two days should be an eye opener for the govt. Likewise, the recovery of 8 hand grenades in Jammu city yesterday was indicative of the alarming security trends and the need for increased vigil and intensified security network.
He said that recovery of arms and drugs trade was undoubtedly being promoted and sponsored under a well hatched conspiracy which needed high level probe in the interests of peace and security in Jammu region.

Mr. Gagan Partap Singh State Secretary JKNPP was also present in the press conference.
