In a first of its kind programme, the Department of Home Science, University of Jammu, organized an interactive session with the parents of students of fourth Semester of Home Science. While welcoming the parents, Prof. Shashi Manhas, Head of Department, highlighted the purpose of such meet and made the parents aware about the Master Degree Programme in Human Development offered by the department. She informed that the Human Development course has huge relevance in day to day life and the course helps the students in dealing with different development aspects related to individuals, family and society at large. She said that the course helps in enhancing the personality of a student and prepares them for vocational life and that the major purpose of the programme was to elicit the suggestions of the parents in improving the various aspects of the department and the strengthening of the positive changes in the lives of the students.
While speaking on the occasion, Prof Neeru Sharma suggested career options in research and explained about the benefits of opting research field. Other faculty members of the department, Dr. Samridhi Arora, Dr.SarikaManhas and Dr.Nirojini Bhat also emphasized on the importance of being independent and self sufficient and explained that the focus of the department is to make the students self reliant and independent in life and therefore students are made to work hard and overcome under development. Dr.Charu Sharma also made contribution in the programme.
Parents shared their views about the changes that they have observed in their daughters. One parent remarked that not only the students but as a parent they have also learnt a lot about Human Development. Students of M.Sc. IVth Semester also shared their views and commented that as a person they have grown a lot and study has broadened their horizons along with academic excellence. Parents appreciated the initiative taken by the Department of Home Science for organizing such interactive session which is very useful for parents, teachers and students. Vote of thanks was presented by Ms. Kirti Chouhan, Research scholar of the department.
