Intergenerational Bonding: DLSA holds sensitization prog at GGHSS Mubarak Mandi

In compliance to the directions of Chief Justice of J&K High Court, Patron-in-chief J&K State Legal Services Authority, Justice Gita Mittal, District Legal Services Authority Jammu in association with Anugraha -a Regional Resource and Training Centre on Ageing, organized sensitization programme on ‘Ageing with Dignity and Intergenerational Bonding’ here at Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Mubarak Mandi.
The programme focused on the need to foster the intergenerational bonding between different generations and to address the different challenges being faced by the Senior Citizens
Sponsored by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, National Institute of Social Defence, Government of India, the progarmme was organized under the chairmanship of Vinod Chatterji Koul, Pr. District & Sessions Judge Jammu and under the supervision of Naushad Ahmed Khan, Sr. Civil Judge, (Secretary District Legal Services Authority Jammu.)
Dr. Aabha Chaudhary an internationally renowned expert, Ph.D holder in gerontology and gender issues also working as consultant with United Nations as Resource Person was the Chief Guest.
With her great understanding of issues, problems of Senior citizens, , the chief guest advised the participants to see senior citizens and elders as blessing and not burden.
Addressing the gathering, Vinod Chatterji Koul, (Pr. District & Sessions Judge and Chairman District Legal Services Authority, Jammu exhaustively explained and asserted that the programme has been designed to develop formal and informal social support system, so that the capacity of the family to take care of the senior citizens is strengthened and they continue to live in the family. Aseem Sawhney, prominent constitutional Lawyer and Additional Advocate General of J&K High Court as Resource Person, also enlightened the gathering on Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007.
Rajiv Khajuria, member Emeritus SCOC, J&K and Rehana Batool, Director Social Welfare Jammu also spoke on the topic and elaborated various existing Welfare Schemes of different Departments sponsored by Central and State Government for the Welfare of Sr. Citizens.
Ajay Salaan, District Social Welfare Officer, Jammu stressed upon the different challenges being faced by Senior Citizens and the need to make effective provisions for securing their Rights. He also enlighten the gathering by his expertise on their Maintenance and Welfare.
Students of the school have also participated with great enthusiasm. A Painting and Slogan Writing Competition was also held on the occasion in which various students took Part.
Prizes were also distributed among the outstanding students. Student namely Seerat hosted the programme.
Besides Students and faculty members of Government Girls Higher Secondary School Mubarak Mandi, Jammu those who were present in the seminar were Shalini Sharma, Chairperson, CWC Jammu.
The programme culminated with vote of thanks by Principal Government Girls Higher Secondary School Jammu, Mubarak Mandi, , Anita Zutshi.
The programme aimed at to sensitize the students about special psycho social needs of senior citizens and methodology of dealing with them and to increase awareness and knowledge of key provision of senior citizens Act, Maintenance of Parents and Welfare of Senior Citizens Act 2007, Dr. Aabha Chaudhary Chairperson Anugraha a National NGO works as Regional Resource and Center on Ageing made Power Presentation on Ageing with Dignity and Intergenerational Bonding.
