A book of collection of two full length Dogri plays ‘Dangar’ by Jagdeep Dubey was released today in a function, organized by DogriSanstha Jammu. Darshan Darshi, Convenor of Dogri Advisory Board in Sahitya Akademi, Presided over the function. Abhishek Bharati, a young and gifted theatre activist and talented scholar read a paper on the released book. A large gathering comprising theatre, Radio and Television artists, writers and people connected with art and culture attended the function. This is Jagdeep Dubey’soverall 4th book and second collection of Dogri plays that has been published.
Darshan Darshi, in his presidential address, complemented the author for his commendable effort. He specially appreciated the enthusiasm of Dubey in having published a series of books in quick succession in the recent past, although he has been actively writing, performing and directing for a long time. He also said that Dubey’s book and his earlier collection of plays are a significant and special contribution to Dogri literature, in the sense that these are successful attempts to fulfil the long felt need of original Dogri stage-plays. Darshi wished all the best to Dubey for his new-found enthusiasm for publishing his works. As Jagdeep Dubey originally belongs to Ramnagar, Darshi made a special mention of the outstanding contribution made by the writers from Ramnagar to enrichment of Dogri literature.
Earlier, while welcoming the audience,Prof. Lalit Magotra, President of DogriSanstha, stressed on the merit of the released book. He said that the most outstanding feature of Dubey’s works is originality of themes and the treatment. Dubey believes in experimenting with new formats, unconventional styles and giving poetic touch to the dialogues. Magotra said that this lends a freshness to all his works. He also said thatit has been a common refrain of producers and Directors of plays in Jammu that there is a severe paucity of original Dogri plays & hence the Dogri theatre suffers. Dubey’s plays would address to a great extent, this genuine complaint of theatre lovers.
Abhishek Bharati, in his paper,analysed both the plays of the collection. He discussed the stage-worthiness of the published plays.Being a director himself, Bharati said that the plays provide ample scope to a director to improvise and interpret the plays according to his/her genius, which is a great strength of the plays.
Dubey also read out some portions of his plays to the audience to give them a flavour of the quality of his works.
The program was conducted and anchored by Dr. Nirmal Vinod, General Secretary of DogriSanstha. Dr. Chanchal Bhasin, Secretary of DogriSansthapresented the vote of thanks the audience, media and all others at the conclusion of the programme.
