Hosts district Jammu clinched the under-19 boys State Khelo India Handball Championship played at STC Ground, MA Stadium, here under the banner of J&K Handball Association. The event took place in collaboration with J&K State Sports Council (JKSSC).
In the title clash, Jammu defeated the visiting competitive side of district Baramulla 20-14. Third place went to district Udhampur. The matches officiated by the technical penal including Happy Mehra, Yusuf, Anuj Langer and Sahil Padha andTariq Ahamed.
Secretary Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), Sunaina Sharma was the chief guest, who gave away the title trophies as also the cash prizes to the position holder teams. She said that the Khelo India scheme has been launched with an objective to involve youth in sports activities to channelize their energy in right direction and imbibe leadership qualities, team spirit and discipline among them. Calling upon youngsters to take active part in sports and games, Sunaina Sharma said that besides nurturing body and mind of the players, sports is a good career option. She appreciated the enthusiasm amongst the players depicting sports personality.
Vice president Handball Federation of India (HFI), Nariender Mahajan was guest of honour. Earlier, general secretary of the Association, Ashwani Kumar Raina welcomed the distinguished guests and presented a brief note on the event highlighting the activities of the Handball Association. He extended thanks to J&K State Sports Council officers , coaches and officials for the support.
Among others who were present were CEO (HFI), Dr. SM Bali; Selector (HFI) and former Indian Captain, Ranjeet Chib (SSP); Sandeep Verma (PRO HFI), Sanjeev Jamwal (Executive Member J&K Handball Association); Ravi Singh Divisional Sports Officer JKSSC, Ashraf Parray joint secretary of the Association, Nissar Ahamed (joint secretary (Kashmir Division);, Ravi Singh (general secretary Udhampur Handball Association) and Saurav Sharma (secretary Poonch Handball Association).
