Jammu Blue clinched the State Korfball Championship for Bhai Gurbux Singh Memorial Trophy outplaying Jammu Red 12-07 (ht 6-5) in the final played today at Green Field ground, here.
Experienced Irfan Choudhary, who with the help of five goals, guided Jammu Blue to the title win. Akhil and Mohit Singh Bhau played well from Jammu Red contributing two goals each. International player, Manjeet Singh officiated the final. Third place went to district Pulwama, who beat Kathua in the hardlinder 6-5. Earlier, in the first semifinal, played in the morning session, Jammu Blue defeated Pulwama 15-03, Jammu Red outplayed Kathua 9-6 (ht 6-4). In the final and valedictory function, working president of the J&K Korfball Association, Tarlok Singh was chief guest, who gave away the title trophies and other individual medals. While speaking to the gathering, he announced that the next state championship shall be hosted by district Pulwama in May 2017.
Prominent among others present were senior vice president, Pradeep Malhotra, resident secretary Kashmir, Gulzar Ahmed, secretary, R K Sharma, joint secretary, VP Sharma and Surinder Singh as also Tarandeep Singh.
