JAMMU, Feb 16:
Hosts Jammu district emerged overall champion in the three-day 22nd J&K Taekwondo Championship which was organised by J&K Taekwondo Association in collaboration with Directorate of Sports, University of Jammu on the JU campus, here today.
District Udhampur remained overall runners-up while Samba finished third considering points earned out of medals won in the competition.
Trophy for active participation went to districts of Poonch, Budgam, Bandipur, Anantnag and Ganderbal. The Sportsman Spirit titles went to Srinagar, Doda, Baramulla and Pulwama districts as also Jammu SAI.
The AIG Provisions and Transport Police Headquarters, Rayees Mohd Bhatt was the chief guest, who presented the title trophies and other individual prizes. Vice president of Taekwondo Federation of India, S M Bali, Ranjeet Kalra (BCCI member), Dr CM Seth (retired IFS), International footballer from Jammu, Arun Malhotra and Rauf Bhatt were guests of honour.
Also present were Jagjeet Singh, Nissar Hussain, Subash Shastri, Ramesh Chander, Vikas Gupta (vice president Judo Federation of India), Ayaz Mugal (District Planning Officer Doda) were among the special guests.
All bouts officiated by the technical penal comprising National referees under the supervision of Master Atul Pangotra (International Referee and Tournament Director). Others in the penal were Master Sarabjeeet from Chandigarh, Harish Tokas from Delhi and Vinod Grewal (Incharge fixtures).
The whole event was coordinated by Rajinder Singh (Physical Education Teacher DYSS). President JKTA, DN Pangotra was chairman of the organising committee and vote of thanks proposed by Sanjeet Sharma (PET DYSS).
