Jammu’s Soham gets 8th spot in National Chess meet

JAMMU, May 29:
Young Soham Kamotra gave scintillating performance in just concluded National Blitz Chess Championship at Lovely Professional University, Jalandhar in Punjab securing eight position in the event.
On his return, Soham and his coach, Vivek Gupta were felicitated by All J&K Chess Association at Hotel Nek, here. Sohan earned the distinction of beating Grand Masters (GMs) and International Masters (IMs) on his way to secure eight points of a total of 11 rounds. He won seven games, drew two and lost two.
Soham finished at joint third position with eight points along with seven other players but due to buckloz tie breaker rules he was declared eight. Players from 23 states participated in this National Rapid and Blitz event including seven GMs and a good number of IMs.
Soham is a trainee of Vivek Chess Academy. “We are proud of Young Soham for giving given such a high level of performance in National Blitz. Our players are continuously shining at big events and the Association always ready for the support encouragement for the talented stuff,” said president AJKCA, Atul Kumar Gupta.
